Low dishonest decade
A parody of the best uncollect verse
I sit on one of the diver’s downs
Wish I was on 52nd Street and Lex,
Hoping for uncertain but knowing I am unafraid
As the stopping hopes expire
On a decade that wishes it were merely dishonest
On its waves of Internet and bliss
Circulating over the sheen that comes with the night.
The darkening lands of social grace
Obsessing our public other lives
With the ever-mentionable order of death.
It offends the September night.
There is no accurate scholarship,
To unearth the careen offense,
From Smith and until Friedman,
That has driven an economy mad.
A psychopathic God
Demands lucre and fossil fill
And a pompous orange graven image
To spew before the video choirs.
I and the public know,
What all elderlies forget:
Those who evil is done
Do more evil in return.
We have no need for Thucydides,
Because our wars are all of choice,
And meant to make democracy
All but name for the theocracy.
And in debates the elderly rubbish they read
To an apoplectic ungraved
Piled high with unread enlightenment
To ease the mawkish pain.
Mismanagement is our holy Savior
But now we must suffer them again.
Because what was once a threat,
Is now a neutral warning
Because the blind skyscrapers project
The climate is all changing.
And to their full height proclaim
The strength of collective air.
We cannot long endure
In a euphoric dream
Gaining money for being first
Before imperialism’s face.
We shrug because we do not believe
In international wrong
When the profit calls to us
“I am right until you’re dead,
And who cares what happens after that?”
Hunger is what happens
To all with wretched voice
The pleases do not requite
The slowly dwindling pace
Little dances
Indeed become
Nijinsky folderal.
Defenseless under the weight of night
Our world in a stupor planet cries;
Yet, dotted everywhere in verse,
Ironic points of very distant vacuous light
Flash wherever the unjust proclaim
Their X-wing fated Messages:
composed in AI
Of Eros and of pixie dust,
Beleaguered by the same enervation
Negation and all despair alike,
Show an affirming disheveled flame.
